April 26th is National Pretzel Day; a celebration of pretzels of all shapes and sizes.

Salt dots knot of dough

The hands of child in prayer

Pretzels know the world

Pretzels are believed to be the world’s oldest snack; dating back to 610AD in either Italy or Southern France.  The most common pretzel shape is knot-like; often claimed to have originally been baked by monks in this shape to represent children’s hands in prayer.
